On May 21, Wacker Chemie, a German chemical enterprise, announced the official completion of the expansion project for specialty silicones at its Zhangjiagang production base. The new production lines mainly manufacture silicone oils, silicone emulsions, and silicone elastomer gels, which will meet the growing demand for high-quality specialty silicones in the Chinese market. These lines will be gradually put into operation within the next few months.
Dr. Christian Hartel, a member of the Wacker Executive Board, stated, "Our investment in Zhangjiagang demonstrates that even during periods of challenging economic conditions, we remain committed to the successful strategy of 'In China, For China'."
With a history of over 30 years in China, Wacker currently derives 37% of its total group sales from Asia, approximately half of which comes from China. The Zhangjiagang production base is one of Wacker's largest comprehensive manufacturing sites, primarily supplying silicone finished products such as sealants, elastomers, and emulsions to the rapidly growing Asian market.
Silicones are applied in traditional fields like textiles, leather, fiber industry, and coatings, as well as innovative sectors such as electric vehicles, renewable energy, and medical technology.
Hu Wentao, President of Wacker China, noted that this is the largest single investment in the Zhangjiagang production base in 15 years and a strategic investment in the future. The expansion demonstrates Wacker's determination to stay at the forefront of market trends and meet customer needs. (Reporter Wang Jingjing, The Paper)
