Silicone Oil Emulsion Powers Performance Upgrades for Automotive Dashboards

Hits: 865 img

Recently, with the rising demand for automotive interior quality, the application of dimethyl silicone oil emulsion in automotive dashboards has attracted significant attention.
In terms of material protection, dimethyl silicone oil emulsion demonstrates remarkable advantages. After forming a uniform dispersion system through emulsification, it cures into an elastic protective film on the dashboard surface, effectively blocking over 95% of UV rays and water vapor penetration, thus significantly delaying yellowing and embrittlement of plastic substrates. Its highly flexible molecular chains can absorb high-frequency vibration energy. A certain automotive instrument manufacturer used Dow Corning 50cSt silicone oil as a damping medium, reducing equipment failure rate by 40% and saving 15% in costs. Additionally, silicone oil molecules can chemically bond with the plastic surface. In salt spray tests, the corrosion rate of the dashboard surface coated with the emulsion is only 1/5 of that of untreated surfaces.
In performance optimization, silicone oil emulsion also excels. It forms a mirror-like reflective film on the substrate surface by virtue of its low surface tension, enhancing gloss. It reduces the static voltage on the dashboard surface, minimizing dust adsorption—after adding antistatic agents, the static half-life can be shortened to within 2 seconds. In terms of lubricity, it lowers the friction coefficient between plastics from 0.4-0.6 to 0.1-0.2, preventing key sticking and knob rattling. Meanwhile, hydrophilic modification endows it with anti-fogging functionality, and the formed lubricating film optimizes touch, making the dashboard feel closer to high-end leather.
In practical application scenarios, for daily maintenance, wiping with a microfiber cloth dipped in diluted solution restores gloss and prevents dust. For aged dashboards, spraying a silicone oil emulsion containing nano-titanium dioxide can restore 85% of the original gloss at a cost far lower than replacing components. In coastal high-salt fog areas, protection with fluorine-modified silicone oil emulsion can significantly extend the salt fog resistance time of dashboards to meet relevant standards.
With technological development and growing market demand, the application prospects of dimethyl silicone oil emulsion in automotive interiors will be even broader.
