Recently, there have been several important developments in the field of silicone resins. According to National Business Daily, Transfar Smart Logistics applied for a patent for its hybrid phenyl silicone resin and preparation technology in 2024, which is currently in the small-scale trial stage. This technology focuses on high-temperature resistant coatings and is expected to be applied in the humanoid robot field in the future.
Wacker launched the upgraded SILRES® HP 2000 LV silicone resin curing agent, which has significantly reduced volatile organic compound content, enabling the formulation of safer metal coatings. Suitable for existing formulas, it helps metal coatings maintain gloss and offers excellent anti-corrosion performance, making it an ideal solution for protecting ships, bridges, etc. It can also be used in dual-coating systems, enhancing cost-effectiveness.
In May 2025, Shandong Donghu New Materials Co., Ltd. filed a patent for "a modified MQ silicone resin, its preparation method and application". Through special modification, it can improve the bonding strength between pressure-sensitive adhesives and adherends, avoid silicon migration caused by high temperature, high humidity and ultraviolet radiation, and enhance product performance.
Meanwhile, Hunan Hengdong Economic Development Zone welcomed a project with an annual output of 24,600 tons of organic silicone resins and various adhesives. With a total investment of 41 million yuan, the project is expected to produce 11,000 tons of organic silicone MQ resins annually, providing professional adhesive solutions for LED displays, automobiles and other industries.
In addition, researchers have developed an anti-reflective, ultra-slippery and self-cleaning coating based on silicone resins and silicone oil. With hydrophobic, anti-fouling and self-cleaning capabilities, the coating can improve the initial efficiency when applied to solar cell surfaces, showing potential applications in the photovoltaic field. These new progress indicates that silicone resins are continuously making breakthroughs in material performance improvement and application expansion, with broad prospects in the future.
