Polysilazane: A New Breakthrough in Aerospace Materials, Domestic Technology Breaks Monopoly

In the aerospace field, the high-temperature resistance of materials is crucial. Recently, a major breakthrough has been achieved in polysilazane-based composite materials developed by Quanzhou Wanzong Chemical, attracting global attention.
This material has passed extreme environment tests, with its high-temperature resistance exceeding 1500°C, and has been successfully applied to coatings for new-generation rocket engines. The reason why polysilazane can withstand such high temperatures lies in its unique molecular structure. Polysilazane, with a main chain composed of Si-N bonds, transforms into a ceramic phase (Si₃N₄/SiC) at high temperatures, forming a dense protective layer that isolates oxygen erosion.
Test data shows that after 30 seconds of ablation by a 1500°C oxy-acetylene flame, its mass loss is only 0.8%, while that of traditional resin coatings exceeds 15%; after 100 thermal shock cycles (1200°C → room temperature), there is no cracking, and the strength retention rate is over 90%.
Previously, high-end polysilazane technology was long monopolized by German and Japanese enterprises, with a unit price as high as 3,000 yuan per kilogram. Nowadays, China has reduced the cost to 800 yuan per kilogram through independently developed liquid precursor conversion technology and achieved a production capacity of 100 tons per year. This material has been applied to protective coatings for satellite solar panels and thermal barrier systems of hypersonic vehicles.
Experts predict that in the next 5 years, polysilazane is expected to replace 60% of aerospace organosilicon materials, with the market scale exceeding 5 billion yuan. As a high-performance material, the acceleration of the localization process of polysilazane not only provides strong support for China's aerospace industry but also will play an important role in more high-end fields, helping China's related industries reach a higher level.
